Ask the dude dancing at last call in his Snowboard boots if Apres ski is dead. Though not what it was in the 70’s( except maybe for guys with mustaches), Apres ski is still alive in Sun Valley. Out at Warm Springs Apples offers a nice assortment of happy hour beers as well as burgers and snacks for a hard riding crowd of friendly locals and people who know locals.

For evening in town, Grumpys has big Schooners of beer and a simple but good quality burger selection. Lefty’s also has big beers and the cheapest eats in town.

The Pioneer has a full bar and great service , but it is sometimes a bit hectic with diners waiting for tables during dinner hours. The walls are a veritable museum of animal mounts and western memorabilia.

For a nice atmosphere and conversation, the better appointed Christiana (sit at the bar with Sean the bartender) and the ever popular Sawtooth Club also feature relaxed atmosphere and full bars.

The Cellar is consistently crowded with the twenty something crowd. It offers a nice Pub Menu and shuffleboard which makes it a family option early in the evening

The one place with consistent live music is Whiskey Jacques. After burning to the ground about two years ago it will reopened it’s new and improved doors in Dec 09. Check the paper for bands and other entertainment such as karaoke and dollar nights

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself late night in the smokey haze of the the casino as all roads seem to lead there. Here the best bartenders in town serve up the stiffest drinks that will put that “first chair last call” T-shirt your wearing to the test

dining

Ketchum And Sun Valley offer up a wide variety of dining choices. Sun Valley mostly consists of restaurants run by the resort, most have decent food but always seem a bit like Disneyland in their authenticity.

Ketchum has a wide range of Restaurants from inexpensive family places to fine dining. On the cheaper side of things Wise Guys Pizza, and Rico’s both have good pies with Rico's having a more expansive Italian Menu and Wiseguy sticking to pizza and subs.

Speaking of Subs Johhny G’s Subshack makes a great sandwich with all the fixings and is one of the most reasonable lunches in town. Wrap City is also a great place to grab a quick bite with super yummy wraps and daily wrap specials.

For Mexican Desperado's is always a sure bet for good food and great service, the Carnitas are outstanding, the chips and salsa are tasty but go light on the chips.

Moving into the moderate priced restaurants there are two nice choices for Asian. Rickshaw has a healthy variety of curries and other asian Street fare. Globus also has a tasty selection of Curries, Pad Thai and other great tasting Asian specialties. Ciro offers pizza's, pasta's, and other Italian dishes.

Fishing for Sushi? Sushi on Second is always fresh, fun and reliable but as usual with sushi not necessarily inexpensive.

Great steaks and fish can be had at the Sawtooth club and the ever popular Pioneer Saloon. The Roosevelt is also a sure bet for steaks and fish with good service and a low key atmosphere. For a more classic European flare try the Christiana.

Since I am a dirtbag snowboarder I can’t tell you too much about fine dining . The two standouts would be Naso for Italian and Riccabonna’s since it is right next to the Board Bin and every time I take out our recycling the wafting aroma’s from their kitchen smell awesome.

Also be sure to check out the Burgers at the Power House in Hailey, they are the best in the valley.

These are the good ones that come to mind, but obviously there are some I have forgotten.

Still Keeping the boots on Apples, at the base of Warm Springs offers a great selection of happy hour beers. They also have burgers and snacks for the hard riding local crowd and out of towners in the know.

Evening standouts would be Grumpy's for big schooners of beer and a simple but always satisfying burger selection in a friendly low key atmosphere. Lefty's also a consistent choice for burgers and beers if you are looking for a cheap meal.

After the hot tub, quick nap, and dinner head up town to the 7 or 8 great bars all within a minute or two walk of each other.

Choices include the Cornerstone, which has great food and an upscale bar with a good vibe. The Sawtooth has a real cozy fireplace setting, ideal for kicking back and talking with friends. The Roosevelt also has a laid back atmosphere. The Cellar Pub has a nice selection of beer on tap and a fun mostly 20 something crowd. The Christiana is an old school bar but is always enjoyable for getting the feel of Ketchum.

Whiskey Jacques is the one place with consistent live music, it is more of a sports bar until the bands start and then it gets Rockin as a live music venue.

Late night or anytime the Casino serves up the strongest drinks from the best bartenders. The haze has lifted there as now it is non-smoking.

The Cornerstone bard and grill offers up a tasty selection of western urban cuisine in a fun open style restaurant.
